As Pilates Teachers we work and work but how often do we take a lesson? I give myself a Pilates lesson whenever I can. Most of the time I take a few different exercises and just do those like: Feet in Straps, Eve’s Stretch, Elephant. When do I ever take a lesson from another teacher? How about never. How about you- when?
Last week I actually made time to meet at a friends studio to take a class lesson with her. I was interested to see how she organized and arranged a group class on different pieces of equipment. I don’t know about you, but, I get caught in the sameness trap. I teach a certain way with my clients even though I use different exercises. I modify exercises based on their needs. What fun and eye-opening it was to have someone watch me do her exercises. Keep your little toes on the foot bar, glue those heels together, pull the carriage in using hamstrings etc. etc. She’s a real dancer, I’m a real athlete. She has a different approach to the method.
I highly recommend you taking a Pilates class or two from a couple of different teachers. It’s a real TREAT.
Tip of the Day: Watch Ballroom dancing on line then try to copy their posture. Stand tall-Good Posture Becomes You.
