We have already learned that if you do not stand tall, your chest becomes your waist. Because your metabolism shuts down in increments every 5 years, if you eat the same quantity today as you used to, you gain weight.
Now, there is new information out about the drinks you are consuming. Health magazine March issue wrote: “Alcohol temporarily keeps your body from burning fat”. According to Pam Peeke, MD, “Since your body cannot store alcohol calories, your metabolism stops burning food and begins to burn alcohol first. So, what you just ate gets stored as fat. Alcohol decreases fat burn in the waistline area”. Consequently, Beer Belly! Good Grief! Happy Hour just became “Unhappy Hour”. Here are a few suggestions: Drink less, forget sweet mixed drinks, mix wine with club soda and ice (ugggh!), try champagne, drink a glass of water for each drink you consume (you get mileage for walking to and from the bathroom).
I am at the age when I want to “let it all hang out”, but now I find moderation and control the two most important issues in Active Aging.
I am still a Work in Progress, how about you?
Tip of the day:
BUNS OF STEEL, While sitting watching movie trailers, commercials or at red lights, squeeze your buns 20 times as if you are holding a $100 bill. Great posture becomes you.
